Endowment Fund

January 2007

Dear MOGAN, Friend and Affiliate of Mfantsiman Girls' Secondary School,
Mfantsiman Girls' Secondary School (MGSS) will be celebrating its Golden Jubilee on 30 September 2010. This will be a great accolade in Ghana's education history, because in the 46 years of its existence, MGSS has produced different calibre of personalities including, but not limited to administrators, bankers, business women, community leaders, computer programmers, doctors, financial controllers, government officials, housewives, lawyers, lecturers, international civil servants, members of parliament, ministers of state, mothers, nurses, secretaries, teachers and a whole host of accomplished men (not forgetting our 6th Form She-boys of the 1970s) and women all over the world.

In spite of our achievements, we cannot rest on our laurels because the MGSS of today is a mere shadow of its former self. Those who have had the opportunity to visit the School in recent times can attest to the fact that the facilities are over-stretched and crumbling. The School’s resources date as far back as the 1960s, for a student population that has quadrupled over the years. The dormitories and classrooms are over-crowded and the grounds have lost its charm and beauty. These prevailing conditions, if left unchecked will further continue to hamper the Administration’s efforts to provide the rich and fulfilling educational environment that we all once enjoyed. The clarion call is for MOGANS, Friends and Affiliates of the School to come to its aid, so that we can restore our alma mater to its former glory, if not over and above that mark. Commitment and hard work will be the key. Our first priority will be to make available some funds towards the renovation of the School infrastructure, prior to the Golden Jubilee celebrations in 2010. The notion will be to reminisce the impending Jubilee with fulfilled hearts and not that of despondency.

In light of this an endowment fund was launched on 30 March 2006 to unite our individual and group efforts under one umbrella, so that our goals can be achieved in a harmonized way. The target for the fund is ¢5 billion Cedis over a period of five years. The fund is managed by an Executive Council (EC) with representation from the different year groups and chapters of MOGA, as well as, other stakeholders. The EC will collaborate with the various chapters in the discharge of fund-raising activities and also submit an auditor’s report to the MOGA Executive on a bi-annual basis. The EC will in consultation with the Headmistress decide on projects to be funded in order of priority. There are two standing committees within the EC, namely:

  • Finance & Resource Committee - responsible for all investment and disbursement of funds to the school;
  • Building & Development Committee - constitutes the advisory body for the selection and execution of projects.
  • The following accounts have been set up for the collection of donations:
  • Ghana Account No: 105 113 001 0127, Ghana Commercial Bank, Ministries Branch. Since the bank is networked, members can make their deposits at any branch all over the country.
